About

Microsoft charges about $50K to get a MOSS Internet Connector license. A lot of companies may not see this as a viable option if simply what they want to do is to create a simple informational public-facing website using Sharepoint.

You can still create public-facing website using WSS 3.0 but with it's flat structure, it's hard to have proper web content management with it. You're relying heavily on web-parts such as Content Editor Web-Part and unlike MOSS, WSS pagesĀ are not treated as content type with meta-data, henceĀ searching and versioning will not be possible.

CompleteSharepoint.NET is a content management system built on top of Windows Sharepoint Services 3.0 and was developed to mimic Microsoft Office Sharepoint Server (MOSS) 2007 with the ability to treat pages as content type with meta-data. Searching and versioning are now possible in public-facing website built with WSS if you're working with CS.NET framework.

Having said that though, it will - of course - have a lot less functionalities compared to MOSS. CompleteSharepoint.NET utilises fully WSS' out-of-the-box functionalities such as search, web-parts, etc. I'm currently working to extend CS.NET's functionalities by developing modules, custom search, etc. Please stay tuned.

Some of the features of CS.NET are:
- Page editing toolbar
- Content is treated as meta-data
- Publishing page
- Web-part support on publishing pages
- Version history
- Custom master pages and page layouts
- Publishing start and end date
